The Family Beach — small cottage lots, sandy soil, and salt air and wind that centipede has to survive.

Surfside Beach lawns are small, and that fools people into thinking they're easy. The salt, wind and sand say otherwise.
Known as the Family Beach, Surfside is mostly compact cottage lots — year-round homes, second homes and a good share of rentals packed close together a few blocks off the ocean. The yards are little, but the growing conditions are harsh: fast-draining sand that holds no water or nutrients, constant salt in the air, and wind coming off the beach that dries turf out and burns the exposed side. A tiny lawn in a hard spot still needs the right plan.
Two services, often together
Peaceful Bi-Weekly Mowing is 17 visits a year, and on a small Surfside lot the detailing is where it shows — mowing at the correct height, careful string trimming, a clean edge around the driveway and walk, and blowing everything off. Premium Fertilization & Weed Control is 9 treatments a year, weeds treated every visit, with a stop every single month in summer. On sandy beach lots, spreading feeding across many small, well-timed applications is what actually holds color — not a couple of heavy shots.
Salt and wind stress on centipede
Centipede is the common grass here, and near the beach it takes a beating. Salt air, wind and sand that dries out in a day show up as thin, off-color patches on the windward side of the yard. The single biggest lever isn't more product — it's watering deep and infrequent so roots go down, and feeding little and often to match the sand. Centipede actually wants less fertilizer than most people give it; overfeeding is one of the most common ways we see it damaged.
Tight lots mean the edges are the whole look
On a Surfside cottage lot, there isn't much open lawn — it's driveway, walk, beds and the strip in between. That makes the trim line and the edge the first thing anyone sees. Sharp, consistent edging on every visit is what makes a small beach yard look cared-for, and it's built into all 17 of our mowing stops.
Renting it out? We keep it guest-ready
A lot of Surfside cottages are on rental programs, and a tired front yard costs bookings. A set bi-weekly schedule means the lawn is always cut and edged between guests without you having to think about it — and we email before and after every visit so you know it's done.
Timing on sandy coastal soil
Beach sand drains in minutes, so a program written for inland soil washes straight through. Our 9-round schedule is timed to coastal turf: an early winter pre-emergent, a longer-residual pre-emergent in spring, sedge control (which most companies charge extra for) through the summer rounds, and a fall pre-emergent in September–October that stops the winter weeds you'd otherwise fight in January. On a small lot the whole program is quick — and it keeps the yard clean without you lifting a finger.
